Photo-encaustics This series mixes digital
photography with encaustic painting. With these photo-encaustics, I try to to
use the photographic image as a starting point and then blend the painting and
photo together. The wax of the encaustic builds up and breaks away from the
flatness of painting, in a tactile way. At the same time, the photographic
underlay brings a third dimension, through the ephemeral quality of light.
Photography The way
I approach photography is the way I approach painting. To distill down images
to their essence, so that they become abstractions. It's all about color
texture and pattern, no matter what the subject. I see a certain composition
when viewing a subject, and shoot what my eye focuses in on. This is all
digital photography, which adds spontaneity to the process.
